The Calico Bristlenose Catfish belongs to the Ancistrus genus, nocturnal freshwater fish native to South America and commonly known as bristlenose catfish in the aquarium trade. These fish are highly valued for their role as efficient tank cleaners, primarily due to their exceptional algae-eating abilities. They possess a peaceful demeanor, making them suitable tankmates for various fish species, although males can become territorial in limited spaces or if adequate caves are lacking. While they consume a wide variety of algae, it's advisable to supplement their diet with algae wafers. Additionally, providing driftwood in the aquarium offers them additional nutrition as they graze on microflora and microfauna present on its surface. With their striking calico coloration and beneficial tank-cleaning attributes, Calico Bristlenose Catfish make fantastic additions to most tropical freshwater aquariums.
